Our visit to the lakehouse on "leap day"--February 29th--ended with a horrendous drive home in a true "white out" on Interstate 68. Too much snow and too much construction "mess" to take any pictures inside. We took these pictures of the entrance to the Thousand Acres development as we left.

Lakehouse Udate February 18, 2008

The Kitchen with the cabinets being unboxed and temporarily set in place. The view is from the Great Room, looking "over" the eating penninsula. The back of the cabinets shown here will be finished with the same darker wood as the center island and the Great Room bar. Ash floor is yet to be stained, light cherry/cinnamon wash over natural. The walls that will actually "show", which are not very many, will be painted a cinnamon, rusty red. hopefully to coordinate with the vibrant granite countertops!

Closer view of the sink area. Cabinets have been moved back to fit in the alcove under the windows. Cabinets look almost white in these pictures, but are actually a creamy vanilla with lots of cherry/cinnamon stain in the "nooks and crannies."

View of the kitchen from the entrance to the Dining Room. Center island is the darker cherry/cinnamon stain. "Cut out" in the center island will be topped with the granite and is a place for a stool so that one can sit at the counter and work. There will be hanging lights above the island and the eating penninsula.

The "corner" of the kitchen where the double oven and the refrigerator will be. Dining room is to the right.

View of the cabinets on the Dining Room wall. Solid doors are in place on the upper cabinets for shipping purposes; the actual doors will be glass.

The cabinetry around and above the cooktop. Again, looks very "vanilla" and light, but the "cinnamon" stain in all the edges and mouldings, which "matches" the darker center cabinet, does not show up well in the picture.

Closer look at the cooktop area. The "spot" on the back wall is the connection for the "pot filler" water faucet which will extend out over the burners, when needed. We and the builder have determined that the archway seems too low, and the entire section will be raised so that the upper moulding will be more level with the tops of the upper cabinets. The plans are that a stone finish, matching the fireplace in the other room, will be above the arched cabinet.

Closer shot of the cabinetry near the windows. Need to change this cabinet (and its mirror match on the other side) so that it does not jut out in front of the stained trim around the windows.
